1959 yılında İstanbul'da doğdu. 1976 yılında, Roma'daki La Sapienza Üniversitesi'nde Sinema Tarihi öğrenimi yapmak üzere İtalya'ya gitti. Accademia Navona'da ve Accademia d'Arte Drammatica'da Silvio D'Amico yönetimindeki sanat tarihi ve kostüm derslerine devam etti.

1982 yılında Julian Beck birlikte ile Yaşayan Tiyatro'da çalıştıktan sonra " Scusate il ritardo "da Massimo Troisi'nin ve " Son Contento " da Maurizio Ponzi'nin asistanlığını üstlendi.

Yapımcılığını Marco Risi ve Maurizio Tedesco'nun birlikte üstlendiği ilk filmi " Hamam ", 1997 Cannes Film Festivali'nde, " Yönetmenlerin Onbeş Günü " tarafından keşfedildi ve hem İtalya, hem de diğer ülkelerde eleştirmenlerin olduğu kadar seyircilerin de beğenisini kazandı.

Uluslararası alanda başarı sağlayan film, İtalya'nın yanı sıra, İngiltere, Fransa, İskandinavya, Almanya, Hollanda, Japonya ve hatta " nüfuz edilmesi çok güç " olarak tarif edilen ABD'de gösterim imkanı buldu.

Yönetmenin ikinci filmi " Harem Suare "nin çekimlerine 1998 yılında başlandı. Türk-İtalyan-Fransız ortak yapımı olarak gerçekleştirilen film, 1999 yılında Cannes Film Festivali'nin " Selection Officielle " kategorisine seçildi ve gösterildiği tüm Avrupa ülkelerinde önemli gişe başarıları elde etti. " Harem Suare " aycıca Toronto, Palm Springs ve Londra festivallerinden de resmi davet aldı.

Özpetek'in " Cahil Periler " i , İtalya'da gösterimde bulunduğu haftalar boyunca en fazla izlenen İtalyan filmi oldu. İtalyan Sineması'nın tanınmış yönetmenlerinden Nanni Moretti'nin " La Stanza del Figlio " ve Giuseppe Tornatore'nin " Malena "sını geride bırakan Özpetek'e övgüler yağdı.

Kathryn Bigelow (born 27 November 1951) is an American film director. Some of the genres represented in her wide variety of films include science fiction, action and horror.

She was born in San Carlos, California, USA, as the only child of a paint store manager and a librarian.

Bigelow entered the cinema by way of the art world, starting her creative life as a painter. She took up formal studies at the San Francisco Art Institute for two years before winning a prestigious scholarship to the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program in 1971. Bigelow entered the graduate film programme at Columbia University, where she studied theory and criticism.

Her first short film, The Set-Up (1978), is a 20-minute deconstruction of violence in film. Bigelow's first feature was a biker movie, The Loveless (1982), which she co-directed with Monty Montgomery. Next, she directed Near Dark (1987), which she co-scripted with Eric Red. Near Dark attracted interest from both critics and horror fans for its unusual blend of genres, bringing together the vampire movie and the western.

In Blue Steel (1990), Jamie Lee Curtis stars as a female rookie police officer who is aware of her own vulnerability. Point Break (1991) stars Keanu Reeves as an FBI agent who poses as a surfer to catch a team of bank robbers. The film was trashed by most critics.

Her 1995 film Strange Days, written and produced by her then-ex-husband James Cameron, failed to attract a major audience. A neo-noir thriller set in Los Angeles at the turn of the millennium, the film focuses on the effects on society of a new technology that records everything a person experiences, allowing others to relive the sensations when they wear the device and play back the recordings. Set against this backdrop is a murder-mystery plot, culminating in a finale during a New Year's Eve Party involving tens of thousands of extras in and around the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. The film, starring Ralph Fiennes and Angela Bassett, plays with gender stereotypes, making the lead a weak ex-cop who is heavily dependent on a strong woman. Although the action heroine is a clearly visible type in all of Cameron's films, Bigelow made this theme even more explicit, dressing Fiennes in elegant, colorful printed silk shirts while Bassett wears suits and masculine leather outfits.

Based on Anita Shreve's novel of the same name, Bigelow's 2000 film The Weight of Water is a portrait of two women trapped in suffocating relationships. The film is a departure in some ways for Bigelow in that it lacks the kinetic action and technical dazzle of her previous films. Like her other work, The Weight of Water shows her continued fascination with families.

In 2002 she directed K-19: The Widowmaker. Starring Harrison Ford, it's about a group of men aboard the Soviet Union's first nuclear powered submarine. Despite an action-packed storyline and attention to detail (also a trait of former-husband James Cameron), the film tanked at the box office.

She is currently directing The Hurt Locker starring Brian Geraghty, Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie with cameos by Guy Pearce and Ralph Fiennes. The film is set during the Iraq war and was written by former Playboy journalist Mark Boal.

Her TV credits include episodes of Homicide: Life on the Street (1997-1998), the post-Twin Peaks TV series Wild Palms (1993), and several others. She also directed the music video for the New Order song "Touched by the Hand of God."

Besides being a director, Bigelow has also modelled for a Gap ad, as well as acting in Born in Flames (1983).

Bigelow was married to fellow director James Cameron from 1989 - 1991.

Semih Kaplanoğlu'nun ilk filmi Herkes Kendi Evinde, aldığı birçok ödülün yanısıra yurtiçi ve yurtdışında birçok uluslararası festivale de katıldı.

İkinci uzun metrajlı filmi Meleğin Düşüşü uluslararası eleştirmenler ve izleyiciler tarafından daha geniş bir ilgiyle karşılandı. Dünya Prömiyeri 55. Berlinale'de yapıldıktan sonra film, halen dünya çapında uluslararası festivallerde yolculuğuna devam ediyor.

Semih Kaplanoğlu, yönetmen olmanın yanısıra, plastik sanatlar ve sinemaüzerine yabancı dillere de çevrilmiş makaleler yazdı. Bu makaleler, Gergedan, Gösteri, Cumhuriyet ve Sanat Dünyamız gibi dergilerde 1987â€"2003 yılları arasında yayınlandı. Aynı zamanda 1990 yılında Erol Akyavaş'ın St. Petersburg Hermitage Müzesi'nde yapılan "Iconoclasts" adlı sergisinin katalog yazılarını yazdı. 1996-2000 yılları arasında Radikal Gazetesi'nde"Karşılaşmalar" adlı köşeyi yazdı.

Jonathan Demme (born February 22, 1944, in Baldwin, New York) is an Academy Award winning American film director, producer and writer.

Demme broke into feature film directing working for Roger Corman. His first mainstream feature Melvin and Howard caught the eye of Hollywood and he was signed to direct the Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell vehicle Swing Shift. The compromised production saw Demme withdraw for a time from major feature films making a notable series of 'concert films' with Stop Making Sense and Swimming to Cambodia. He continues to alternate making feature films with documentaries and concert/performance films.

In 1991, Demme won the Academy Award for The Silence of the Lambsâ€"one of the few films to win all the major categories (best film, best director, best screenplay, best actor, and best actress). Demme directed an Oscar-winning turn from Tom Hanks in his next feature, Philadelphia.

One of his common directorial motifs is to allow characters to look directly into the camera.

Demme formed his production company, Clinica Estetico, with producers Edward Saxon and Peter Saraf. They were based out of New York for fifteen years.

Demme has three children and is a graduate of the University of Florida. He also was the uncle of director Ted Demme, who died in 2002.

It has been reported that he is currently working on a documentary featuring Jimmy Carter as Carter promotes his book Palestine:Peace not Apartheid.[1]. The film will premiere at the Venice and Toronto Film Festivals.
